The Graduate
Puppies that Graduate from our program will already be much further ahead than a typical puppy, and will have the foundational training required to go further into more advanced training. This program is an all inclusive training curriculum focusing on: house manners, obedience training, socialization, and desensitization. Our goal at Maddy’s Canine Campus is to produce well-balanced pups that exceed all your expectations!
We have Deluxe Customized Package add ons for families looking for specific imprinting and exposure training.
House Training :
Everyday we spend 4-5 hours working with house training alone. It takes a large amount of consistency, patience, and time for a puppy to master house training. We aim for above average puppy manners.
• Crate trained-be crated 4 hours at night without having an accident.
• Potty trained– be able to wait up to 1 hour between restroom breaks while playing in the house with your supervision
• Chew trained– understand the word “no” or “ah- ah” when chewing something they shouldn’t. Responded well to redirection.
• Jump trained– begin to understand and respond to the word “off” when they jump up on you or furniture. Practicing having all paws on the floor to receive any attention.
Obedience Training :
At least 5 days a week we take each individual puppy and work on each command. This takes a lot of time and skill but our pups have more training than an average puppy of the same age!
• Sit– obey sit verbally and with a combination of verbal & hand commands
• Stay – stay from a distance of 5 feet for a duration of 5 seconds
• Down– obey down with a combination of verbal & hand commands
• Come– to come with a high-pitched happy voice from short distances with the combination of verbal & hand signals.
• Off– begin to understand “off” when they jump up on you or furniture.
• Place – get onto a raised bed or mat with guidance of hand signal along with the verbal command.
• Leash Etiquette– walking on the left side in a loose-leash heel position with limited pulling in a low distraction environment. Begin to auto-sit.
• Stair Training & Practice– to be able to slowly make it up and down stairs.
• Kennel/ Crate – go into kennel with guidance of hand signals alongside verbal command. Able to settle within 10 minutes or less.
Socialization Training :
Socialization Training is the next smart puppy point of training, we are introducing a puppy to other dogs and humans in varying looks, sizes, and ages.
• Physical Handling /Touch- Since your puppy has yet to be fully vaccinated we take extra precautions and restrict exposure to mostly of puppy raisers, trainers, family and guests.
• Stranger and Child Trained– all pups are introduced to the trainers' family friends as well as the neighborhood kids. This gives them exposure on how to appropriately play with smaller children.
• Other dogs– they meet, greet, play with, and /or interact with age and size appropriate pups at our facility and in our controlled environments with a trainer present at all times.
Desensitization Training :
The next smart puppy area of training is desensitization. This starts the day you bring them home. At this stage of life, desensitization goes hand in hand with socialization and many times overlaps one another. We define desensitization training as teaching a puppy to be calm and confident with new activities and environments. With our training program, we start exposure early on and make happy, positive associations.
• Vet Trained– able to be picked up and taken into vet. A typical dog of any age struggles with vet visits. We get a head start to make sure puppies have happy vet visits and associations with the veterinary office.
• Grooming Trained– trained with their basic bath time routine so they will be comfortable and calm while being bathed and brushed – they still might be uncomfortable with blow dryers and nail trims but we try to expose them to these often to help reduce anxiety over time.
• Sounds– puppy is accustomed to being around certain sounds – such as the television at regular volumes and vacuums, but will still most likely be uncomfortable around very loud new sounds.
• Car Rides– begin exposure to riding in a car. We pick them up and put them into the car since they are not yet able to jump into and out of the car yet. Your puppy will be getting more comfortable with riding in the car either in a kennel or loose (but restricted to the back seat area only). There are some dogs, just like people, that get motion sickness. By taking our puppies for car rides at an early age, we set our puppies up for success to help them feel more comfortable and confident riding in the car
